INSTITUTE OVERVIEW
Neuroscience in Bordeaux has grown over the last 10 years to become one of the largest scientific communities in the field of Neuroscience in France and in Europe, with over 500 people working in various CNRS, INSERM and INRA labs. All these labs are including in the Universities of Bordeaux which are grouped in a virtual Institute, called Bordeaux Neuroscience . Directed by Jean Marc Orgogozo and created in 1994 by Michel Le Moal, Bordeaux Neurosciences coordinates more than 40 research laboratories …

We found a molecular way to prevent the cellular effects of the autoantibodies. Whether this strategy could reduce the symptoms in patients remain an open question. More globally, we uncover a new cellular pathway that may well be a new avenue of research to develop new therapeutic strategies against psychotic disorders. Read more...

Cyril Herry and Julien Courtin show that these data demonstrate for the first time that auditory cortex plays a critical role during auditory fear conditioning and open new clinical perspectives to prevent the formation of pathological fear memories. Read more...

Job position in Naples, Italy. We are looking for candidates for two highly qualified research positions (renewable for 3 years) to work at the Institute of Genetics and Biophysics (IGB), National Research Council, in Naples, starting as soon as possible. The positions are financed by a collaborative project between IGB (Dr. Elvira De Leonibus and Dr. Marina Ciullo)…L’Isituto di Genetica e Biofisica (IGB) di Napoli sta cercando 2 ricercatori altamente motivati a cui offrire un contratto di Ricercatore a tempo determinato rinnovabile per 3 anni (compenso annuo lordo 46.433,50 euro), per lo svolgimento di un progetto nell’ambito delle Neuroscienze e per lo sviluppo di una linea di ricerca indipendente…..

The projects of the lab focus on the cellular biology and physiology of glutamatergic synapses in the hippocampus. The group masters a variety of techniques including slice electrophysiology, molecular and cellular imaging, in vivo gene delivery.

We will demonstrate from a historical point of view that the neurosciences in Bordeaux result from a long tradition, since the XIXth century, of Great Masters in Neurology, Psychiatry and Neurophysiology experts in clinical and experimental research. Read more...

The International Nutrition and Brain Summer School aims at combining theoretical and practical training. Methodological and goal-oriented training are achieved by guiding the students through hands-on experiments within the frame of short scientific projects. In addition, the school promotes interactions between students and internationally renowned scientists and offers conditions to stimulate students' discussion on lectures and laboratory experiences. For the 2012 school's edition, the central topic is Nutrition and Cognition. This highly innovative topic will be studied from an integrative point of view from molecular to behavioural levels in experimental models and humans. See the website...

Recent research on nutritional mechanisms and their effect on the brain show they are involved in almost every facet of neurological functioning including alterations in neurotrophic factors, neural pathways and neuroplasticity, throughout the life cycle. The 5th symposium organised by Angelo Contarino , see the program....

In this review, we discuss challenges to treating Parkinson's disease (PD), novel emerging agents and targets for potential treatments, and how to better to design clinical trials - including the development of objective endpoints for trials which will assess disease-modifying or neuroprotective agents. "We conclude that the impairment of working memory by marijuana and cannabinoids is due to the activation of astroglial CB1R and is associated with astroglia-dependent hippocampal LTD in vivo." See the video of Giovanni Marsicano....

A study by Benjamin Dehay and colleagues recently published in "Scientific Reports". We observed transduction of neurons in most regions of the brain - structures like the cortex and hippocampus, which develop post-natally, were more transfected than deep brain structures like the midbrain. See more in the english video….
