Research projects: The motivation for my research is to understand the neural mechanisms that generate motor programs in the brain with a particular focus on circuits located in the cerebral cortex, the thalamus and the basal ganglia. My current research is focused on discovering the electrical activities that underlie the beginning ‘START signal’ and the cancellation ‘STOP signal’ of motor actions and how those neural events are altered in neurological disorders, particularly Parkinson's disease. My research strategy is to employ a wide range of techniques to define the molecular, spatial and temporal organisation of those neural networks in the brain in vivo during normal and pathological conditions
