Planar Polarity and Plasticity - Mireille Montcouquiol  Associate team leader:Nathalie Sans
  Program areas:
Neurobiology of development

FENS Themes:
Development / Development of sensory, motor and limbic systems ; Development / Transplantation and regeneration

Scientific expertise:
epithelial cells ; epithelium ; planar cell polarity (PCP) ; apicobasal polarity ; inner ear ; organ of Corti ; vestibular and cochlear systems ; KO mouse model (Knockout transgenic mouse)

Technical expertise:
biochemistry ; molecular imaging ; explants culture of organ of Corti ; transfection technology of epithelial cells

epithelial cells ; epithelium ; Planar cell polarity (PCP) ; apicobasal polarity ; vestibular and cochlear sytems ; inner ear ; organ of Corti
Research interests: My research activity focuses on the planar cell polarity (PCP) in mammals. I study the inner ear which is the model of planar cell polarity in mammals and I have identified the Vangl2 gene and some proteins interactiving with the Vangl2 . My aim is a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in planar polarity in mammals to lead to some novel therapeutic targets for numerous neuronal diseases. I am interested also in genes involved in apicobasal polarity, in particular some cell adhesion molecules , the Wnt and frizzled gene families and Small rab GTPases.
